Bowdenex (corrected spelling) conversions were very popular and are still used, but the friction in the cables and sometimes the reduced ground clearance tends to negate any advantages.

The late radius arms are very strong, but also very heavy and not allowable in some vintage circles. The early versions can be "boxed" by welding strip steel along them to make them more rigid.

We tend not to like the 13mm way out, as this makes the critical axle eyes even smaller.

As you can see, it is not simple!! People here (UK) do sell the MM conversions (Vince Leek I believe)
